A note from Meredith: How’s your spiritual life? Amidst the stresses and pressures to make grades, find and maintain relationships, plan and secure your future, and navigate the 4.2 gazillion hassles of life as a student, the college years can be a time of neglect of spiritual life. Or maybe for the first time in your life you have religious questions, and yearn for a supportive place where you can explore those questions. This thing called “spirituality”: it might include a concept roughly expressed in English with the word “God,” or it might not. Either way, we’re talking about resources you draw on to find peace amidst chaos, to live mindfully in the present moment, to experience joy in the everyday, to bring awareness to your own habits of ego defense and see through them, and to know that what you are – all of what you are – is enough. You are good, and you are loved, but maybe sometimes you forget. “Spirituality” is a word we use for any of various ways to help us remember. I don’t have any pat answers. But if you need a spiritual life (and I think everyone does), some friends along the spiritual path, or you’ve got questions you want to investigate, we’re here for you. If the Unitarian Universalist tradition, style, or approach doesn’t resonate with you,, then please look up some of my friends and colleagues in the Campus Ministry Cooperative http://www.dso.ufl.edu/multicultural/cmc/ . One way or another, I want every student’s spiritual life to be as rich as her or his intellectual life. Blessings, Meredith09/15/2007 |
