Zen Practice: December 28
Zen friends,
I won't be able to be there for Zen practice on this Friday (Dec 28). Who is planning to attend?
Let me know so we can ascertain who'll take responsibility for opening up and locking up (or, if no one is planning to attend, we'll let folks know it's been cancelled.)
With gassho and bow to you all — Merry Christmas,
-Meredith
If there will be childcare, Jenny and I will be there. I can probably come by myself if there is no childcare and open the place up. Will anyone else be there?
Dan
Zen Practice: December 21
We'll be sitting in the Common Room starting at 7:00. The VFP (Veterans For Peace) concert starts at 8:00. Those who wish to see the entire VFP (Veterans for Peace) show can slip out at 8:00 and walk over to the sanctuary. There is an admission fee — sliding scale according to ability to pay — $5 to $20, I believe. If you want to see the second half of the show, you can wait until we've had our closing bows and then go over. That's what I'll be doing (I have a speaking part in the second half of the event.)
With gassho and bow to you all,
-Meredith
Zen Practice: December 14
"To awaken a flagging spirit, the following is helpful: reflect that death can come at any moment either from sudden accident or serious illness, and resolve to achieve enlightenment without delay." — Yasutani Roshi, as translated by Philip Kapleau, The Three Pillars of Zen, Part I, Section III.
Hello Friends,
We’re having our weekly Zen practice on Friday, December 7, at 7:00pm. We’ll be at the UU Fellowship, 4225 NW 34th Street in Gainesville . The Reading for this week is from Philip Kapleau, The Three Pillars of Zen, Part One, Section III: “Yasutani-roshi’s Private Encounters with Ten Westerners: Editor’s Introduction, Student A.
“…the mind of a Buddha is like water that is calm, deep, and crystal clear, and upon which the ‘moon of truth’ reflects fully and perfectly.”
— Yasutani-roshi
See you tomorrow! With a gassho and a bow to you,
Shana Smith
Zen Practice: December 7
"Enlightenment can take place anywhere, not alone in the dokusan room."
— Philip Kapleau, The Three Pillars of Zen, Part I, Section III.
Hello Friends,

The Reading for this week is from Philip Kapleau, The Three Pillars of Zen, Part One, Section III: "Yasutani-roshi’s Private Encounters with Ten Westerners: Editor’s Introduction, Second Half." I neglected to point out that last week we were supposed to read the first half.

Meredith is at sesshin for the next two weeks, but Jane has very kindly agreed to take the reins. Have a wonderful zazen. See you next week! With a gassho and a bow to you,
