Interweave and Being A Welcoming Congregation

Next Interweave

What: Potluck dinner & speaker/movie

When/Where: Sunday, December 14 at 6:30 PM in the Phillips Social Hall

We begin with a potluck dinner and then continue with either a speaker or a film followed by a discussion.

Interweave is not only for the GLBTQI community, but ALSO for our STRAIGHT friends and allies.  We love to see you there so please come and join us.

Welcoming CongregationInterweave is a local chapter of Interweave Continental and provides an opportunity for gay men, lesbians, bisexuals, transgender persons and their heterosexual allies to celebrate their differences and similarities, and to strive for the elimination of all oppression by providing spiritual, political, educational and social activities. Everyone is invited to participate in Interweave.

Our UU Fellowship is a Welcoming Congregation that commits to being inclusive and expressive of the concerns of gay, lesbian, and bisexual persons at every level of congregational life — in worship, in programs, and in social occasions — welcoming not only their presence, but also the unique gifts and particularities of their lives as well. The Welcoming Congregation is administered and supported by the Office of Bisexual, Gay, Lesbian and Transgender Concerns, an office of the Unitarian Universalist Association.

GLBTQI Welcoming Congregation

Starting November 7, 2007, and running for 6 sessions on Wednesdays at 11 AM and 7 PM, we looked at how we can become a more welcoming congregation.

"UUFG is are already a recognized “Welcoming Congregation,” however, it is time to look again how we as a organization may not be affirming of the rainbow diversity of human expression. A Welcoming Congregation is one that goes through discussions, study, and discernment to become affirming, accepting, and welcoming of people, regardless of their sexual and gender orientations. It is time again for a refresher course on how we can do a better job of welcoming the GLBTQI (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning, Intersex) community.

During the months of November and December the ministers will be part of a team that holds discussions and learning opportunities for members of our congregation as we struggle with what it means to lift oppression from stereotyping of all kinds. If you would like to be part of this lead team, please contact Rev. Joyner."
