Music Committee
The purpose of the Music Committee is to act as a support and advocacy group for the music program and the Minister of Music. In addition the Music Committee is a liaison (regarding music concerns) between the Program Council and the congregation. The Music Committee also interacts and coordinates activities with other committees such as the Sunday Services Committee, the Committee on Children and Youth, and the Communications Committee.
The Music Committee includes the Minister of Music. One of their main activities is to assist in administering the UUFG Concert Series. There are about four concerts held each year and they have been very successful. UUFG members attend the concerts but often members of the Gainesville community represent a larger proportion of the audience. The concert series has definitely been a part of our Fellowship's community outreach.
Some of our dreams and goals for the future include having a bell choir and a music intern. The bell choir would add yet another dimension to the music program and it also would provide an important musical outlet for those folks who are not able to sing. The music intern is a newer idea that has been tried at some UU churches and is patterned after ministerial interns. The music intern would assist the music director for a year or two. At the conclusion of the internship that person would have gained the skills which would qualify him or her to become the music director of another UU Church or Fellowship.
