THURSDAY IS CHOIR NIGHT AT UUF.

The Shalom Chorus rehearses beginning at 6:30 pm, and the Chalice Choir rehearses beginning at 7:45 pm. The Shalom Chorus is for all treble singers in grades K-12. All ages begin the rehearsal together. The younger singers are dismissed after about 30-40 minutes. Then the middle and high schoolers who constitute the Beacon Singers stay to rehearse more advanced repertoire. Our children and youth choirs sing at Sunday services once or twice a month. The Chalice Choir sings at services about three times a month. New singers are welcome at any time!

Our Chalice Choir (adult choir) meets Thursdays, 7:45 to 9:30pm. The Chalice Choir also welcomes boys with changed voices.  Singers just must be able to securely 'carry a tune' and match pitch.

The Chalice Choir:

  • sings at Sunday services about three times a month
  • sings anthems, both sacred and secular, from a wider variety of sources and traditions
  • prepares the major portion of our annual Christmas Eve service and other special music services
  • begins each season with a Saturday retreat at the end of August featuring much singing, learning and socializing
  • occasionally sings with or plans joint activities with other choirs at UUF and around Gainesville and Florida
  • INVITES YOU TO JOIN US!

The Shalom Chorus is for all children and youth in grades K-12. Rehearsals are Thursday evenings at 6:30 p.m. Younger singers are dismissed after thirty to forty minutes; older youths rehearse more advanced repertoire until approximately 7:45 p.m.

Cabaret Night

Saturday Night, February 23, 8:00 p.m.

This gala affair is a fundraiser with a dual purpose. Proceeds will be divided between our music program and a fund to assist UUFG members in attending the UUA General Assembly to be held next June in Fort Lauderdale. Tickets will go on sale Beginning January 20 after Sunday Service. Choir members will also have tickets available.

Suggested ticket donation is $10-25 for adults and $5 for children. Childcare will be available for those too young to attend. Now, those are bargain prices for an entire evening of entertainment and dessert!

UUFG CONCERT SERIES

Sunday, March 2, 3:00 p.m.

SINGERS OF UNITED LANDS

SOUL

On Sunday afternoon, March 2 at 3:00 p.m. Singers of United Lands will appear in concert at UUFG.  This dynamic quartet of singers is in its fifth season of touring and includes two young men and two young women who are each from a different country--Brazil, Czech Republic, Republic of Georgia, and Zimbabwe.

Together this group tours throughout the U.S. for five months performing only songs from their native countries in schools and religious communities.  Songs reflect a variety of genres, but all have been brought to the group's repertoire by the singers from their respective homelands.  Each is an accomplished and educated singer and performer in their home country.  The program will feature their unique blend of mostly a cappella harmonies from around the world.

The concert is free, but donations are welcome.  A reception will follow the program.
